Shiriki Program (Letter Exchange Program)

Shiriki is Swahili for Share.

Pendo has created a letter exchange program where classrooms or groups of school aged children exchange letters, cards and even videos with the African children that Pendo serves.

A grade 2/3 (students age 7-9) classroom in Ontario, Canada piloted the program by hand making Christmas cards for the children in both Tanzania and Uganda. The children in Uganda have just recieved cards from Canada detailing life in Canada. In the new year, the Canadian children received their replies, along with a video. Their teacher was thrilled to be able to teach her students empathy and even geography through this initiative.

If your school or group would like this experience, please contact us so we may match you with a similar aged group.
