New School Year!
August 2022
As a new school year approaches, we are excited to announce that we have doubled the number of children in our community that will be attending Private School. Thanks to donations, these 20 children have the opportunity to choose a path to become doctors, nurses, business owners, etc. Quality education is key to social mobility and can thus help reduce poverty by improving the distribution of skilled workers, allowing state authorities to use this increased supply to build a fairer society in which all people, rich or poor, have equal opportunities. As it is now, only the elites benefit from quality education. Many will decide to return to their village and help their community. If we don’t support them, they won’t get this chance. They are the future. Here are some pictures of the children getting measured for their school uniforms!

An exciting new initiative is underway at the Pendo Project… Forest Rangers! Pendo Project is now working closely with the Batwa community to support children become forest rangers through school. The Batwa people are one of the oldest surviving Indigenous tribes in Africa. They live high in the mountain forests, straddling several East African countries. Much of the land they lived off of has become designated wildlife parks by the local government, meaning they can no longer live off the land the same as they used to. Since these children are indigenous peoples of the forest, it is only natural that they are given the opportunity to return to their roots, while giving them a formal education and a paid position as a Forest Ranger to do what is already natural to them.
