Bwana Project (Pig Project)

Bwana means “Boss” which is what our Uganda Team affectionately call our Director, Tracy. This pig project is designed to create financial freedom for women in the Bwindi Park District of Uganda. Through donations, Pendo has been able to purchase 20 piglets to allow a select group of women to better their farming output, sell piglets and manure at market and ultimately achieve financial autonomy.

Once all 30 pigs have been purchased, we believe the project will be self-sustaining, in that the original women will be able to sell their piglets to other women in the area and so on.

Dembe Deus, manager of the Pendo office in Rugubari, Uganda, has selected 10 women to receive the first of the pigs. They were told the reason to why these pigs were given to them was to help them improve their financial status and support their children. Deus takes time to meet with the women to guide them in the responsibilities of being entrepreneurs.
